Magical Melody Review
The game Magical Melody was one of the first games, since the gameboy colour titles to introduce the option of choosing the gender of the farmer. It was released as a gamecube game, in North America. When it reached the shores of Europe it was a nintendo wii game, and the feature of choosing the farmer's gender was taken out. The game starts off with the new farmer arriving in Flower Bud Village, to be greeted by a over enthusiastic mayor, Theodore. The mayor greatly resembles mayor Thomas from earlier games. You are then given a choice of where your farm land will be, which ever is chosen has no major impact on the game, it's just where you would like to live. Then a long opening sequence begins, in which you dream about the goddess turning to stone, you meet the harvest sprites, and meet Jamie. It does drag on a while, but it can not be skipped, sadly. Then when the game finally begins, you are finally able to explore, and begin working for those notes. This game is perfect for people who like not having any structure, and left to do things in their own time. The graphics for the game, are very cute, but those that prefer a realistic look will not be thrilled with this game. The cuteness extends to people, and animals. They resemble the drawing style of 'chibi.' The over all progression of the game can be slow or fast, it depends how devoted you are to collecting those notes. There is the option to marry in this game, there is the same for male players as there are for female players. 11 girls including Jamie, and of course 11 boys including Jamie. The marriage feature however is seriously lacking, there are no heart events and no special events after the marriage. Even though the baby can be held, it can become annoying after a while. There are no rival marriages, so there is no hurry to marry at all. One of the new features in this, is the some what useless pig and having to ship certain things on a regular basis to keep the villagers from moving out for a while. This can become very tiresome, especially when you need to devote yourself to one aspect of the game.
