There are different “special tools” you can get from different villagers after you befriend them. Here is a list of the tools, when to trigger the events and what to give each person to befriend them the fastest
Changed Hoe:
Characters in Event: Tim & Ruby
Best Gift:
:Tim: Milk, Flowers, Anything from the dig site.
:Ruby: Milk, Flowers, Tomatoes, Grapes
Event: Enter into Tim and Ruby’s bedroom when Tim is there. Around 8am. Tim explains to you that he got this hoe in a far away land and has no use for it. So he gives it to you. You must be friends with both Tim and Ruby for this to work.
Suspicious Hoe:
Characters in Event: Vesta
Best Gift: Milk, Flowers, Crystals
Event: Enter Vesta’s shop on her farm when she is inside. Early afternoon is usually good. She will give you a hoe in a cut scene and explains that she doesn’t know how to use it. So she gives it to you..
Suspicious Sickle:
Characters in Event: Gustafa
Best Gift: Flowers, Things from dig site
Event: Enter Gustafa’s Yurt one time when he is there. 10am is usually the best time to catch him when he’s there. He explains that he found the sickle washed up on the beach and doesn’t have any use for it so he gives it to you.
Weird Sickle:
Characters in Event: Hardy
Best Gift: Fish , fossils
Event: You cannot trigger this event until chapter 2. Enter the clinic when Hardy is there. He gives you this sickle that he no longer has any use for. He gives you the sickle and warns you to be careful that you don’t lose an eye with it.
Strange Watering Can:
Characters in Event: Romana & Sebastian
Best Gift: Milk
[Your only need to befriend Romana for event to trigger]
Event: Enter Romana’s room when she is there and you will trigger this event. She will tell you that she has an old watering can stored away that she wants you to have. And sends Sebastian to get it. It is meant for trees and only holds enough water for 1 square of land. Pretty useless if you ask me.
Strange Sheep Shears:
Characters in Event: Wally
Best Gift: Milk, Eggs
Event: Wally will give you a pair of sheep shears in this event. Enter his house when he is there. He explains that he has this pair of shears and has no use for them. I don’t know what he would have used them for. Maybe he used them to cut Hugh’s hair. But he gives them to you as a gift.
Galen's Fishing Pole
Characters in Event: Galen
Best Gift: Fish- smelt
Event: must be after chapter 2 Enter Galen's house when he is there
and he will give you his fishing rod and explain that he no longer fishes. You
will be able to catch better fish with the pole.
*If you do
not befriend him before chapter two you must play the grave washing minigame to
gain his friendship*
Seed Maker:
Characters in Event: Daryl
Best Gift: Coins, Colombo fish
Event: Enter Daryl’s lab when he is there. The evening is a good time. If you see him walking around follow him until he returns home and enter right after him. In the scene he seems angry about something. Saying “whyyyy, whyyyyy?” Apparently some people in the city have stolen his invention of a seed maker. He decides to give you the seed maker to prove that his invention works and he had the idea first. He installs it for you in your tool shed.
Grant’s Alarm Clock:
Characters in Event: Grant
Best Gift: Eggs, Milk
* You do not have to befriend Grant to trigger this event*
Event: You cannot trigger this event until chapter 2. To find Grant at home go to his house around 5am one morning. Or on the 10th of any season to trigger. He will explain that he has an old alarm clock that he doesn’t need anymore. And that he wants to give it to you. You are transported back to your house where he sets it up and explains how to use it. Now you will be able to wake up at a set time each day, as opposed to sleeping twice every night.
